"Being a mother has been the most rewarding, complicated, exhausting and fulfilling thing I’ve done in my life."
I’m all love & light but lately …
Shit has been heavy. When things get rough I go to my happy place meaning my kids. Being a mother has been the most rewarding, complicated, exhausting & fulfilling thing I’ve done in my life. Watching my boys grow & teaching them to slow down has shown me what I truly value (& what I don’t). Sadly no matter how much I work on staying in my lane, some things sting & send me spiraling out into dark places.
So many women navigate mother hood alone. Not that they don’t have resources for help , but they are left to be ridiculed, judged & criticized for choices made for the child they created. We live in a society were “mom guilt” is normalized & women put other women down based on their own beliefs. I find that even when minding my own business I bump into someone who reminds me that someone is always watching. I'm not talking about the divine or any spirit that is constantly guiding us. I'm talking about offensive, rude, self centered people who think they can walk a day in your shoes.
This is my call to all the mothers. Mamas who work full time and feel the guilt of leaving their children only spending dinners together . The stay at home moms that are crazed with no outlet yet are accused of not having a real job or purpose. Mamas who dream of a night off only to fantasize on what their babies are doing. The moms who’s partner is equally tired & distant causing her to wonder what she did wrong. The moms who’s partner is close appreciating the help but wishes she can be quiet, alone & untouched. The moms who are left with a tiny group whom really understands the struggle. The moms who are expected to do it all without batting an eye or complaining. The moms who are expected to hand over their kids & take a break even when we can’t shut off our brains.
Life gets you down sometimes & that’s totally normal & ok. What is not ok is unsolicited advice & opinions. If you are someone who thinks they can add their two cents wherever it’s needed. If your someone reading this thinking… this shit might be about me.
Well maybe it is about you. But in actuality writing is another outlet of mine. Maybe I just woke you up ?
Peace & Love,
Nikki
