My Yoga Journey

""I love my entire yoga journey. It was so unplanned and organic. And yet it was absolutely perfect""

I wandered into a yoga studio to try a new style of exercise like anyone else. What I found was so much deeper. Right away, I was addicted and taking classes every day. The movement was hard but made me feel amazing. When the stars aligned a year or two later, I took a big leap of faith and did my first training in Hot Yoga. It was so technical, learning the foundations and how to literally teach a class, I craved more. Throughout the training, I would go to the studio and sit there meditating before and after class. It was my church. I felt at home. I was raised Catholic and always went against the traditional aspect of my religion/upbringing. Yoga reminded me of that, but it was on my terms. Every time I studied, I found out more about myself. I began to heal myself from the inside out. A few years later, I found myself teaching every single day while working a full-time job and planning a wedding! I woke up to teach sunrise yoga at 5:30 am to work full time from 8 am-4 pm and then teach evening classes. I never felt overworked or tired. It just felt right. I decided to quit my job and study in India for 6 weeks. I left 2 months after my wedding, and it changed my life.

As a Puerto Rican American, I love to dance, and drums speak to me. That first kirtan was like everything I loved in one place: yoga, lecture, music, dance. I was hooked. I went to India terrified. And I left terrified. I was scared when I went because I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I came home terrified because I knew I could never forget everything I witnessed and learned. I was forever changed! I cried to my teacher right before I left that I had no idea how to serve? How to help? How to love? --- A few weeks after being home, I found out I was pregnant with my son. If that's not a sign, I don't know what is.

Why am I passionate about yoga? Yoga makes me a good mama. Yoga makes me a good person. I believe that if you want a better world, you need to be a better person. I believe in the power of the universe. I believe that there is a higher force out there that knows what's up. What you seek is seeking you. So I do my best to put Love and Light into the universe. I have seen yoga change people. Yea, sure it makes you stronger and leaner. If you do the work, you become healthier. I have seen it heal traumas that some people waste their entire lifetimes hurting from. I have seen it mirror what is within. I have personally seen this all in myself.

Peace & Love,

Nik
